Group Exhibitions | Four times one from two thousand and six

Opening: 08.07. - 20.08. 2005

Four times one from two thousand and six is not a thematic group exhibition but a bringing together of four graphical positions that have not yet been shown in the gallery but will be presented individually next year.

Adriana Molder, was born in Lisbon in 1975 and works from photographic material. She finds her motifs in art history, films or academic publications, and her work is concerned with the possibilities of the portrayal of the human face. The portrait in the age of an gigantic, constantly present reservoir of images as a repository and projection field for emotions. Her larger-than-life pen-and-ink drawings on extremely thin tracing paper seem both sublime and vulnerable.
Gena Rowlands, 2005, is the portrait of the actress as a young woman, and is based on a studio photograph that shows something of the ambivalence and fragility of the public image created by Rowlands, who would later achieve world fame in the films of John Cassavetes. Adriana Molder lives and works in Lisbon. more Artist info ...

Jill Baroff, was born in 1954 in Summit, New Jersey, and is interested in complex transference procedures based on systematic observations of nature. Like a seismograph she registers the most imperceptible of changes over long periods of time. The Tide Drawings she has been making since 2002 are protocols of the flood and ebb, a record of ephemeral processes, the making visible through abstraction of time and geography. Ulrich Kochinke, was born in 1972 and tells stories using extremely limited means. But his word-and-image combinations in black ink on simple typing paper are more confrontation than narration. Geometric forms, spatial fragments or shorthand-like lineation meet mysterious and absurd fragments of text: condensed, found phrases in an associative friction with the drawn objects. Ulrich Kochinke lives and works in Berlin. more Artist info ...

Stefana McClure was born in 1959 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. She too works with the relationship between text and image, with the difference that neither text nor image are visible. McClure copies film subtitles line for line, one above the other, onto coloured photocopying paper until the writing process completely obliterates the legibility of the text. Her Films on Paper live from the presence of the absent, evoked by the titles of the processed films. Stefana McClure lives and works in New York. more Artist info ...
