We present two artists, that have so much in common in terms of working methods but create very different results. Both of them deal with the analyse of objects on white paper. Both are characterized throught the insert of filigree lines and strong colourfields, which stand in an asymmetric relation to the white part of the paper. They are playing with the dimensions of areas and the possibilities of perspectives.

Gabriele Jerke´s objetcs are drawn onto the paper with sheer lines. Hardly perceptible und seemingly faded like the memories with these objects, which often belong to the past. But the detailed descriptions tell, what has been manifested into our memories forever. Sometimes it is a combination of colours which impresses, sometimes the technical details of an object : the patterns of metall wires, screws, switches and buttons which decorate the every day life items. Another time it is the encounter of two objects from very different categories, that suddenly form a context or a strange landscape. At times she adds parts of stamps to the composition. They show figures, which are symbolic for their heritage countries and therefore seem to be adressed to our memories.

At Astrid Köppes works the drawn objects are placed more clearly onto the white space and present themselves to the observer in a completely unembarrassed way. They seem very self-conciously to convey the impression, as if everybody knows what gets loomed in front of their eyes. It is a clear object of reduced simplicity, like a pictogram. The things seem to have gone through a metamorphosis. Beautiful and maybe also functional...but what for?

The viewer starts to doubt and to suppose. Does this image possibly show nothing more than a structure of colours, lines and dots? In contrast to Jerke, Köppe waives details. The world she creates appeals to our ability to construct certainty out of things that seem to be familiar; a shape, a certain colouring are enough to let something“ reveal. But already in the way of development we start to question it again.
